Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
- Learners are RPL'd against their proof of practical and theoretical training.
- Learner does not spend the complete theory training in class

Unit Standard Range
- This unit standard applies to persons performing fault finding on AC (single and three phase) and DC systems.
- The Unit Standard Range is broken up according to the component structure and credit rating of the course as pertained by SAQA with the three component levels that the learner must complete before attaining their certificate:
Fundamental Component Unit Modules (36 Credits):
- Access and use information from texts.
- Apply basic knowledge of statistics and probability to influence the use of data and procedures in order to investigate life related problems.
- Demonstrate understanding of rational and irrational numbers and number systems.
- Maintain and adapt oral/signed communication.
- Measure, estimate and calculate physical quantities and explore, describe and represent geometrical relationships in 2-dimensions in different life or workplace contexts.
- Use language and communication in occupational learning programmes.
- Use mathematics to investigate and monitor the financial aspects of personal and community life.

- Apply work site practices.
- Braze metals using the oxy-fuel brazing process.
- Cut materials using the oxy-fuel gas cutting process (manual cutting).
- Describe the welding industry`s composition its productivity requirements and communication techniques.
- Identify and select material to specification.
- Select, use and care for engineering hand tools.
- Select, use and care for engineering measuring equipment.
- Select, use and care for engineering power tools.
- Use welding definitions and symbols.
- Weld carbon steel work-pieces using the shielded metal arc welding process in the down-hand position.
- Weld carbon steel workpieces using the cored-wire welding process in the down hand position.
- Weld carbon steel workpieces using the gas metal arc welding process in the down-hand position.
- Weld workpieces using the oxy-acetylene gas welding process in the down hand position.
- Weld carbon steel workpieces using the gas tungsten arc welding process in the down hand position.
Elective Component Unit Modules (16 Credits):
- Describe chemical process operations and related process chemistry and technology used in the chemical industry.
- Managing files in a Graphical User Interface (GUI) environment.
- Operate a personal computer system.
- Use generic functions in a Graphical User Interface (GUI)-environment.
- Assemble work pieces in jigs (minor amendments include the use of manipulators).
- Deal with safety, health and environmental emergencies in the workplace.
- Draw and interpret simple plate, pipe and structural steel plate, pipe and structural steel drawings.
- Erect and dismantle scaffolding.
- Form and shape Sheetmetal using hand or power operated machines.
- Join Sheetmetal with resistance arc welding process.
- Operate a pendant controlled overhead crane.
- Perform basic firefighting.
- Perform basic first aid.
- Perform basic rigging procedures.
- Prepare and secure work pieces for welding (includes the use of manipulators).
- Weld carbon steel components, using the submerged arc welding process in a down hand position.
- Weld carbon steel workpieces using the shielded metal arc welding process in all positions.
- Weld carbon steel workpieces, using the gas metal arc welding process in all positions.
- Q: Does the quantity of Learnerships matter when considering B-BBEE points?
- A: Yes, to ensure you obtain the maximum points on employed Learnerships but no unemployed learnerships
- Q: Do I still get my B-BBEE points if a learner fails or drops out of a programme?
- A: If a learner drops out they may be replaced with another learner is found competent. In the unfortunate event of a learner failing, the company will still receive their B-BBEE points.
- Q: Is the RPL assessment done through the Jobshop?
- A: Yes, The Jobshop project assesses the candidates knowledge and level of expertise.
- Q: How many students can the Jobshop accommodate?
- A: The Jobshop can accommodate 102 learners in 4 groups theory and 4 groups training at a single time. Training includes HVAC, Electrical, Welding and Hoisting & Rigging.
